Since the start of the pandemic, WHO has led the global response to COVID-19, working with countries to reduce transmission, treat those affected, and strengthen health systems worldwide. WHO’s efforts have included: Coordinating emergency health response and global supply chains Supporting vaccine development, delivery, and equity through initiatives like COVAX Issuing guidance for governments, health workers, and the public Monitoring virus variants and supporting global disease surveillance Providing training, data dashboards, and research platforms Supporting health systems to continue essential services during outbreaks As of March 2025, over 777 million cases and 7 million deaths have been reported globally, and more than 13.6 billion vaccine doses have been administered. WHO continues to respond through technical guidance, disease tracking, and ensuring the world is better prepared for future pandemics.
