ETHIOPIA

Responding to urgent needs from ongoing violence.

Since late 2020, conflict in Ethiopia, particularly in Tigray, Amhara, and Afar, has left over 20 million people in need of humanitarian aid. The blockade in Tigray has devastated access to essential services, including healthcare, food, and clean water. Disease outbreaks, severe malnutrition, and displacement continue to threaten millions, with only 3% of health facilities in Tigray fully functional. WHO is leading the emergency health response with 23 partners, working to maintain essential services, deliver life-saving supplies, and support local healthcare workers. The focus is on restoring immunization programs, maternal care, and outbreak response, while strengthening the region’s capacity to prevent and manage future crises.
